About Sevens

Rugby sevens, also known as seven-a-side or sevens, is a variant of rugby union. In this version of the game teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15. In sevens, matches are shorter, running about 14 minutes. The game is popular during summer with club tournaments held after the 15s season.
Rugby sevens is now recognized as an Olympic sport and will make its debut in the 2016 Summer Olympics. This follows a vote by the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include the sport.
Burnaby Lake Rugby Club has a strong Rugby sevens program, the BLRC Lighthouse. The Lighthouse compete in the elite and social men’s divisions and elite women’s division. The Lighthouse also enter in junior competitions at the u-17 level. In 2010 the Lighthouse won both the Elite Men and Elite Women titles.
