Fundraising
The BLRC provides opportunities for its players to raise funds to pay for their dues or tour.
Youth Coaching Rebate
BLRC wants to build its youth program, and rewards players who find time to both play and coach with a dues rebate. Read about this program
Burnaby Lake Coaching Program:
Purpose
- Burnaby Lake Rugby Club develops most of its future rugby players in the Club’s youth
program. To be successful, the youth program requires club members to volunteer their time
as coaches. To thank and recruit volunteers, the Club is offering a $100 dues rebate to senior
players who coach the Club’s age-grade rugby teams or high school rugby teams that supply
players to the Club.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for the youth coaching dues rebate program, an applicant must:
1. be a senior member, full or student, in good standing of the Burnaby Lake
Rugby Club; and
2. undertake to attend at least 12 team practices, of a single age-grade or high
school team, in a single season.
Dues rebates will only be given to applicants who attend at least 12 team practices. Dues
rebates will not be issued on a pro-rated basis for applicants who attend fewer than 12
practices. Applicants who coach teams that do not complete their seasons will receive credit
towards the 12 practice requirement for coaching another age-grade team in the same season.
Application Requirements
- There are a limited number of dues rebates available; it is not certain that all applicants will
be chosen to participate in the dues rebate program. Applicants must submit an application
letter stating a schedule of times they are available to coach, and, optionally, a list of agegrade
teams or high schools they prefer to coach. Applicants are advised to submit schedules
of availability that match the practice schedules of age-grade or high school teams; schedules
for age-grade teams are posted on the Club website. Participants in the dues rebate program
will be chosen based on previous coaching experience and demonstrated commitment to
Club programs.
Submission and Deadline
- Applications must be submitted to Mike Devlin before midnight September 12, 2011.
Notice of Acceptance
- Participants will be notified of their acceptance and assigned a team
to coach. Participants will be required to sign an agreement confirming their undertaking to
coach at least 12 team practices. Due rebates will be issued at the end of the playing season
of the teams coached, after the Club has confirmed that the requirements of the program have
been met.
Refereeing Program
To ensure a supply of referees for its games, BLRC encourages players to learn to referee and to get experience refereeing at the age-grade level. Referees at this level are now paid $30 per game, and the Club organizes a refereeing clinic at the start of the season for those interested in refereeing. Read about the program

Win-Win Lottery & Club Shop Voucher
The British Columbia Rugby Union requires all of its member rugby clubs to sell a certain number of books of Win-Win Lottery tickets. BLRC is on the hook for the cost of the tickets, whether or not they are sold. On the plus side, the Club makes money for every book of tickets sold over the quota. The WinWin lottery has the potential to be a major fundraiser for the Club.
To encourage sales, the Club provides an incentive system to motivate players to get out and sell WinWin tickets. Players who sells certain numbers of books are rewarded according to the
*Free BLRC Golf shirt – One book
*Free pair of BLRC game socks – Three books
*Free pair of BLRC game shorts – Five books
The rewards above are cumulative. If you sell five books, you get the golf shirt, the socks and the shorts!
