Shelby Sloan is an active coach and Junior Director of Youth Rugby at the Burnaby Lake Rugby
Club. Originally from Kamloops, British Columbia, Shelby took a break from rugby after high
school while pursuing the arts, only to be led back to the game in 2012. Shelby played for the
UBC Thunderbirds under Burnaby Alumnus, Maria Gallo and joined the Blue and White Nation in
2013 where she played for both the Women’s Development and Premier side. Shelby returned
from Auckland, New Zealand in 2017 where she represented the Premier Women’s team at the
College Rifles Rugby Football Club.

Shelby is passionate about grassroots rugby and youth
engagement. She is continually working to introduce youth athletes, and specifically female
athletes into the sport by coaching the junior girl’s program at Burnaby Lake, as well as the girl’s
rugby programs at Burnaby North Secondary School and Burnaby Mountain Secondary School.
Recently, Shelby has started to connect with schools in the Burnaby School district to introduce
Rugby into weekly gym classes and let student and teachers experience this inclusive and
dynamic sport. In addition to this, Shelby also coaches in the Mini Rugby Program during the
spring season and loves creating new and fun games for our Little Lakers to enjoy.

Moreno is the U19 Men’s Coach at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, and local teacher at Byrne Creek Community School in the Burnaby School District. He has returned to the club after a 4 year hiatus that saw him teaching on the North Shore at West Vancouver Secondary School. Moreno is a huge advocate for youth sport and is heavily involved with the sport at the high school level as the Vice President of the BC Secondary Schools Rugby Union, BCSSRU. In addition to his involvement in schools, Moreno is also an active member of the BC Rugby Youth Participation Committee which is tasked with improving the current conditions of youth rugby in the province and developing a plan to achieve realistic growth in the sport at the youth level.

As well, Moreno has been heavily involved with representative youth rugby for the past 8 years. At the regional level this has included work with Vancouver North, Vancouver East, and the Fraser River Delta region for BC Summer Games At the provincial level Moreno’s contributions have ben focused towards the BC U14 boys program in recent years, but has also assisted at the U16 level back in 2015.

Rain de Guzman started playing rugby at Moscrop Secondary and went on to play age grade at BLRC where he represented in FVRU and BC. Rain attended UBC where he played varsity/premier rugby. Upon graduating he returned to the BLRC where he was the first choice scrum half for the premier side as well as the BLRC Lighthouse 7s. Rain represented the Philippine’s National 7s team on occasion. Rain’s goal is to create success by emphasizing fun, fundamentals and fitness.

Bryce Worden is currently a player with our senior men’s premier team, mini rugby coach and an active member of our junior/mini rugby executive. Bryce started playing rugby in elementary school in New Brunswick and came to Burnaby Lake RFC in 2014. He has utilized the game of rugby to travel all across Canada and several countries overseas. Bryce was selected to the U20 Canadian team in 2015 and traveled to Portugal for the Junior World Trophy. He has just recently returned from New Zealand where he experienced a competitive and diverse rugby culture at the College Rifles Rugby Football Club. Rugby has opened many doors and been a hugely positive experience in his life and Bryce is eager to grow the game at all levels.

Geneviève joined the BLRC in 2011 and quickly became an active member of the rugby club. Part of the Executive Board from 2014 to 2018, she recently hung her rugby boots and moved on to become the Senior Women’s Team Manager.

Eoin joined BLRC in 2016 after a break from anything truly physical. He was inspired when his son joined the mini program. The club is extremely welcoming and caters for all levels of rugby. Eoin has played with the 2nd/3rd div teams for the past 2 seasons and also helps by managing the 2nd div team for the 2018/19 season.
